@Rhea I'm a tatami lover as well! Unfortunately I haven't ever slept on tatami when I was in Japan, but I would really like to try: )
I love wood. Of course, wooden houses are very unique in Japan. Mostly older tourist greatly appreciates the Japanese architecture especially those preserved wooden houses. This is also one part of their sightseeing.
Thank you for those places you shared, I would like to visit one of these days.
We believe that Japanese people preserved well their tradition, history, art, culture.... Actually, I am a tatami lover. I love the smell of tatami. It is really relaxing. It is good to sleep there especially in summer. Nowadays, tatami interior keeps changing and moving forward. I don't have a tatami space now but whenever I go to an interior shop, I am checking those tatami interior. Actually, you could buy in pieces and there are many sizes. The smallest one is you could buy a half size of one tatami that you can accent your living room. One thing, this time I am looking for a round or oval shape tatami interior that can fit my living room, so far I cannot find one. Too much of it.....
Zen garden, of course , we are lover of gardens. The unique feature of Japanese garden is famous around the world. So no doubt, that everyone who are visiting Japan definitely will be busy looking for Japanese garden and it is absolutely a part of their tour.
I highly recommend going to Kyoto as the city is know for it's older history
Kiunkaku in Atami in Kanagawa Prefecture and Kawagoe city near Tokyo
Of course. You should visit Shirakawa village in Gifu prefecture or Gokayama village in Toyama prefecture. Also next to Tokyo there is an open air museum of traditional houses.
