A trip around around Lake Biwa, I went down the lake east more to the south from Hikone-shi and visited Omihachiman-shi this time.
Conqueror, Nobunaga Oda of the age of civil strife built a castle and the castle town in Azuchi. After Nobunaga died out, a castle and a castle town were opened in ground next to Azuchi, Hachimanyama by Hidetsugu Toyotomi of the nephew of Hideyoshi Toyotomi. Azuchi castle town was moved with inhabitants then, and it is said that this led to Yawata merchant producing later. The cityscape is sectioned in the same way as Kyoto by a grid and becomes plain. "Omi merchant" is quotient active merchants in the whole country while putting the head office in the country of Omi in the Edo era. They explored markets on foot carrying-pole on their shoulders in the then major cities including Edo Nihonbashi, and played an active part for the first by trust in the world where "simple economy"and "simple and sturdy" were liked. In the downtown, the house of these merchants is left, and the visit is possible, too. In addition, around Hachimanbori with the canal is often used for the photography of the historical drama at the place where an atmosphere of the Edo era is left. Furthermore, a lot of Western-style buildings are left when I walk the downtown. This depends on William Merrell Vories which visited Japan as an English teacher of the Shiga Prefectural commercial high school from the United States in 1905 having been engaged in a building design. Vories is the person who did much contribution to society business including a library and the school establishment as a place of education and the construction of the hospital.
It is dotted with the historic spots of the Nobunaga Oda connection around neighbor Station of Omi-Hachiman Station, Azuchi Station. Azuchi Castle is started construction of in 1576 and is the castle of the wooden high-rise building which Nobunaga Oda built in a short term of three years as a base of the world unification. The height was magnificent with 46m, and the castle consisting of six levels with the castle tower first in Japan seemed to be gorgeous. When Portuguese propagator Luis Frois climbs the castle tower and looked at a castle town dyed gold, it is said that he learned sense of the awe in mightiness of the power of Nobunaga. Unfortunately Azuchi-jo Castle has been destroyed by fire since construction of a castle in only three years in the half month when Nobunaga died by Honnoji-Temple Incident of 1582 more. The solid stone wall and cornerstone are left and are appointed now on the special historic spot of the country. A full-scale model of the fifth floor sixth floor of the castle tower top is displayed in the facilities called "Nobunaga no Yakata" near Azuchi-jo Castle Ruins. This model was exhibited as a main showpiece of the the Universal Exposition of Seville, Spain Japan building of 1992. In addition, the document display about these is done in a certain Shiga Prefectural Azuchi castle archaeology Museum next to Nobunaga no Yakata.
Because there was the shop which was famous for a cake called "La Collina Omihachiman" in countryside of this side that entered the Omihachiman city, I dropped in.
There is a shop in the front when I enter at an entrance among green trees. Though the whole roof of the building of the shop was covered with a lawn, I was surprised. A Baumkuchen is famous, and shops can always stand in line. The corridor that a roof was covered with turf by the rotation earlier which passed through the shop continues and, There are the fields and an art object in the circular open space and is built so that the office ridge which there is of the column-shaped observatory surrounds the open space. I want to recommend that you come by all means and watch fairy-tale scenery.
