As it was a season to hear the news of autumn colored leaves, I visited Shinjuku Gyoen which was just a place much-talked-about in "cherry blossom party". I entered Shinjuku Gyoen from the Shinjuku Gyoen "Shinjuku gate" in around ten minutes on foot from the JR Shinjuku Station southeast Exit. Shinjuku Gyoen is 58.3ha in area, a very large garden of neighborhood 3.5km and has three places of entrances. At the place where this neighborhood was called "Naito Shinjuku" in the Edo era, and there was a daimyo's mansion in Edo of the Shinshu lofty feudal lord Naitos that was a vassal of Ieyasu Tokugawa. When the Meiji era began, it became the agricultural experimental station here, and it was in a garden of the Imperial Family in 1906 and, in postwar period, was opened to the public as the nation park in 1949. It had 70th anniversary of the opening this year.
I went ahead through the periphery course that curved to the right from the entrance and took a walk through the garden. This neighborhood is a promenade feeling that air is delicious in the forest where the big trees such as the Himalayas cedar or the fir tree magnetic field sycamore (plane tree) grow thick. The big tree of the metasequoia which turned red in the point where a way curved was impressive. Furthermore, the scenery changes completely when I go to progress, the area with the Japanese garden and is a beautiful garden dotted with a deep forest and artificial pond and green Tsukiyama, a bridge suffering from the pond, stone lantern baskets. This place seemed to be the most popular in this park, and a lot of many tourists particularly foreigners took a photograph around a pond, they seemed to enjoy the scenery that there was not at home. In addition, in the depths of the waterway of the pond, I could see an impressive figure of history building "Kyu-goryotei" to enjoy the cool air of the waterside. Furthermore, on the promenade, I advance while seeing the azalea mountain to the left and Naka-no-pond to the right, through a bridge over the opposite bank of the pond, I appeared in the open space of the wide lawn when I climbed the slope. The shade of the giant tree of a tulip tree and the zelkova which grew freely in the open space makes a break place of nature. In the east side of the park, there is a forming-type garden designed in the depths by a symmetry, and it is in a rose flower bed. As it was walk time for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes while I enjoyed scenery, I went to the "Okidomon" area of the exit. Near the gate, there is a large greenhouse. I entered this greenhouse and appreciated an orchid and flora of the temperate zone and left Shinjuku Gyoen.
I left Shinjuku Gyoen, and the next left for Jingugaien which was famous in a ginkgo row of trees which changed color yellow. I turn right at Yotsuyasanchome and is the trip of about 30 minutes to aim at Shinanomachi Station.
As firefighting Museum was at the Yotsuyasanchome intersection corner on the way, I observed it as it seemed to be interesting. This museum is the museum which can learn the change of the firefighting to date from the Edo era by the display such as a model or the real thing, the document clearly using 5 floors of the building of the Yotsuya fire department, and for children, it become able to experience fire extinguishing and an ambulance service by a game. The admission is free.
I passed Shinanomachi Station and arrived at the ginkgo row of trees to aim at for approximately ten minutes. A lot of tourists observing the ginkgo row of trees at this time and it seems to become the course of the bus tour. In addition, "ginkgo Festival" was held in the park nearby and was great turnout. As for the ginkgo of this year, I felt that color was not good enough under the influence of a typhoon. However, there is the ginkgo row of trees of around 400m from side to side across the road, and the scenery is combined with a building of "Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery" in the point of the row of trees and is seen like one piece of picture.
I decided to drop in at "Meiji Memorial Picture Gallery" when I thoroughly enjoyed a ginkgo row of trees. This building which can be also known as symbol of Meijijingu Gaien leads Daum in the center completed in 1926, and a symmetric figure is a beautiful building. There is a valuable history document introducing the achievements of Emperor Meiji and the Empress Dowager for 46 years by 80 pieces of pictures in the Meiji era when Japan goes to the modernization inside. In addition, with this document, it is the place that can thoroughly enjoy the splendor of the building.
