A trip around Lake Biwa. Finally, I visited Nagahama city located in north of Lake Biwa. Hashiba (Toyotomi) Hideyoshi achieves an outstanding job by Ane River battle and a Kotani Castle attack, and Nagahama is the place where he built the castle by the achievement for the first time in about 1577. The place name of that time was Imahama, but it was changed the name to Nagahama by Hideyoshi, and he acted as the lord of a castle for approximately five years. In the Kiyosu meeting that selected a successor of Nobunaga, the lord of a castle was handed over to Katsuie Shibata and turned into nephew, Katsutoyo afterwards. However, it was attacked immediately by Hideyoshi, and the Nagahama Castle was based in militarily in the Battle of Shizugatake with Katsuie Shibata. Kazutoyo Yamauchi acted as the later lord of a castle, but became the abandoned castle in about 1615.
The current Nagahama Castle was revived in the form that assumed the then castle which Hideyoshi built in 1983 and opened it as Nagahama castle historical Museum. The castle is 5 stories, the first floor is a reception desk and a museum shop, and a 2.3 floor is an exhibition room, and the fourth floor becomes the tea-ceremony room. The fifth floor becomes the observatory and can look at magnificent Lake Biwa.
The Nagahama Castle of the station Western, but attractive cityscape leads to the district of the east side across the station. I entered "Ekimachi Terrace Nagahama" across the viaduct when I left the Nagahama Station east exit. In the facilities such as information dispatch of Nagahama-shi and the citizen's plaza, it is the way of the tourist here. When I leave this building and go ahead through some station square streets, the building of the Shiga's first elementary school "Kaichi school" founded in 1871 is seen at the crossing corner. It becomes the Hokkoku Highway when I turn to the left at the crossing. Along the Hokkoku Highway, Machiya where a restaurant and a studio, a museum were in forms a line. Furthermore, there is Kurokabe (black wall) glass shop characterized by the Western-style godown style of famous black lacquer bite in Nagahama at the crossing corner when I advance. This whole area is called Kurokabe square, and there are the souvenirs such as glass work or the music box product, a cafe, and it is with a spot of popularity. It becomes the Ote-mon Street when I turn to the right at the crossing of Kurokabe glass shop. An arcade is installed in this street and can do shopping at the time of rain in peace. There is Hikiyama Museum when I go ahead through this street more. In this museum, a gorgeous float with the stage used for UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage "Nagahama Hikiyama Festival" (festival to be held every year in April begun by Hideyoshi) is displayed. I passed the museum, and, across the small bridge, the temple called "Daitsuji temple" was seen in the front depths when I made a left turn. In this temple, there are a fusuma picture of the flowers and birds poetic genius of the Edo era and a study, a garden, and a visit is possible (pay).
I turned right, and returned in in front of main gate to Nagahama Station through an arcade street of the Iwaicho Street.
It is the cityscape which Nagahama is nostalgic, and is modern and the attractive city walk that the history is felt.
